Tell us a little bit about yourself
Well, I'm 34 and live in Holmen with my wife and son. I'm originally from La Crosse, but lived in Colorado from age of 10 until I was 18. When I'm not running I enjoy pretty much anything outdoors. Especially trying my hand at log rolling with my son.
What got you into running?
I was never big into running. When I was 24 and my brother challenged me to 5k. I really enjoyed it, but it didn't really stick other than occasional runs to pretend I wasn't out of shape. A few years later a friend wanted to run a half marathon. At this point I was pretty out of shape and knew it was time to do something about it. So I trained and ran my first two half marathons in 2015. Followed that up with my first marathon in 2016. At that point I knew I liked running but never really loved running. Then a coworker introduced me to trail running and I was hooked. Since then I have run 1 more marathon, two 50ks, four 50 milers, and a number of shorter races.
What is your favorite race/route/distance?
Favorite race so far had to be Ice Age 50k which was my first ultra.
Favorite route would have to be the Hixon course.
Favorite distance is definitely the 50 mile distance.
What is your proudest running accomplishment or favorite running memory?
Finishing Voyageur the first time. It was my first real experience with hitting every wall I had (some multiple times) and pushing through. Really helped define me as a runner and really made me appreciate every step I took (literally cause I could barely walk the next day).
Do you have a dream race?
Leadville 100
What are you most looking forward to this year?
I am really looking forward to my first 100 mile attempt at Fall Superior.
What is your favorite food for running?
Mountain Dew. That counts as a food right?
Anything else you care to share?
I have really appreciated all the time I spend on the trails with other runners. La Crosse has such a great group of runners of all types.
